CHAPTER XV

Linguistics Phonetics, Suprasegmental Phonology, Semantics, Rhetorical Devices And Bipolar I Manic Episodes

Intonation, Inflection, Cadence, Modulation

Linguistic has many subfields; phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatic—other branches are applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and the philosophy of linguistics etc—. The philosophy of linguistics is fascinating because it explores the arbitrary semantics association between a lexicon (word) and it’s representation. Adding to the philosophical aspect of linguistics is semiotics, it’s the study of signs, symbols and the processes in which meaning is induced; it’s a broad scope that lack a simple definition, and because the academic discipline hinges on a myriad of theoretical variances, it’s difficult to institutionalize. Every branch and subfield of linguistics invariably takes a cross-disciplinary approach to psychopathology, specifically, the communicative models that fissure the parapsychological-phenomenon in Bipolar I Mania, and Bipolar II Hypomania. Two subfields we’ll explore is phonetics and phonology—the former narrowly and the latter in-depth.

Phonetics has three subfields—articulatory phonetics, auditory phonetics, and acoustics phonetics; articulatory studies the production of speech; auditory studies the perception and interpretation of sound, and acoustics studies the propagation or the oscillation of sound between the speaker and listener. Although phonetics play an integral part in bipolar communication, phonology is the central focal point. Phonology has two major subfields; segmental phonology and suprasegmental phonology; the former study the units of sound such as consonants and vowels, and the latter, also called prosody, studies rhythm, pitch, intonation, inflection, tonal modulation and cadence..

Modulation reflects the overall amplitude, frequency, timber, overtones and undertones in speech utterance, a sort of musical nonlinearity where the rise-fall modulation is irregular. Similar to the chromatic scales in music where intervals are extracted to form the diatonic scale, to which musical harmony derives— speech modulation in language is not constricted by these rules, it abides by a biological innovation preceding back to the primate era of homo-sapiens and communicative evolution.

Cadence is also voice inflection or modulation that can be compartmentalized and isolated into the rhythmic flow in the former or latter part of a speech. Hence, a comedian like “Mitch Hedberg’s” cadence became his pervasive comedic trademark; the pinnacle being the latter part of his deliveries—while his overall speech would express the essential features of modulation… Cadence is the upward or downward measurement of a consistent inflection during speech that’s unique to the individual. Cadence is attribute to accents, which is the process or methods of English pronunciation, so by definition, everyone has accents.

Intonation is pitch variation in grammatical structure, the functions are attributed to someone’s emotional predicament during speech. There’s four kinds of intonation; rising intonation, falling intonation, rise-fall intonation, and fall-rise intonation. Rising intonation contours usually indicate some uncertainty on the speaker’s part, while falling intonation may indicate despondency in speech. Pertaining to uptalk and up-speakers where the statement sounds like a question and the sentence ends with an upward inflection—the intonation is the rise and fall throughout the entire sentence.

Inflection is ambiguous in it’s definition, because it encapsulates two meanings; it can refer to inflection, which is the modulation of frequency or rise and fall in pitch, constituting it’s intonation, and it’s also attributed to cadence. Both inflection and intonation deals with pitch modulation; primarily the upward inflection in American dialect at the end of a question; “technically—inflection.” Inflection and intonation is prevalent amongst uptalk or up-speakers; statements that sounds like questions, where the sentence ends with an upward inflection.

Bipolar’s are disinhibited from culturing nurturing and social conditioning during manic episodes and hypomania, and the tonal structure of linguistic effaces. This postulates that the phonetical and phonological features of linguistics is invariably part of the developmental stages of language acquisition. During impulsivity the adolescent being ignites, to which studies have shown there’s a correlation between adolescence and impulsivity being an underlying neurodevelopmental process. Speech rapidity during grandiosity augments manic’s speech intonation, and when disinhibition blurs the boundaries between culturing nurturing and social condition—the ego submerges and the childlike persona emerges…Bipolar’s effective power of persuasion is predicated on authenticity; whereas neurotypical’s rely on sarcasm, verbal irony and condescension as rhetorical features of communication.

Here’s what’s interesting; literary devices are partitioned into two categories; figurative and rhetorical devices; ambiguity in figurative’s derives from the expression of commonalities between different forms of existence—-metaphor, analogy, metonymy etc! — ambiguity in rhetoric derives from the phonetical and phonological features of sound. Manic’s exploit ambiguity through the rhetorical features of language using authenticity. This is a philosophical predicament during mania, the extreme emotional dichotomy between existentialistic elation and existentialistic despair; authenticity is the pinnacle bedrock during existentialistic elation, and the crossover despair is nihilistic during depression—-is two philosophical extremities mania battle with.

But how does the phonological features of linguistics align with manic’s authenticity during mania to elicit the effective power of persuasion? Ever watched America’s Got Talent? Audiences are sympathetic to three kinds of performers; extremely old, extremely young, and disabled. Because impulsivity is another repressed aspect of our psyche, disinhibition allow manic’s to impulsively rekindle with their adolescent state. A childlike state of affair where the social construct of communication dissolves and the authentic phonological features of speech emerges…. Void of rhetoric and completely removed from tonal conditioning—-reminiscent. Adolescence is a state of vitality, and the loss of vitality is disease….

Synopsis: Self-Referential & Empirical Analysis

These empirical analysis are inconclusive, however verifiable through observation, experience and a degree of self-affliction..Inferences conclude that mental faculty are the prerequisite towards mental disorder attraction, and physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics invariably initiate the attraction. These hypotheses are based on independent, theoretical and practical analysis under organic and inorganic conditions. A taxonomy between different forms of mental disorders; primarily, bipolar, has been curated under normal impulsive, distractible, disinhibited and grandiose conditions to effectively and efficiently classify their mental faculty, cognition, psyche, personality, characteristics, conditioning, ideology and emotions.

A detailed examination of test subjects and their mental disorders correlation to areas of metaphysics, phenomenology, parapsychology and psychopathology.. The heightened sense of awareness, the germination of the conscious and subconscious, and the solipsistic and pantheistic implications during mania. Investigations were conducted in their fatal attraction, specifically the prerequisites and initiators that poise the pleasure of interest; also, the amplification of precognition, premonition, retrocognition, clairvoyance, synchronicity, serendipity and telepathy.

Bipolar implies the polarized state between euphoria and dysphoria, and i’ve used the misleading definition because they’re both extreme end of the emotional spectrum that exceeds beyond the normal individual. However, they’re representation of emotional dimensions or coexisting emotional alternation. Bipolar depression and unipolar depression are symptomatically different disorders, and it’s imperative to draw distinctions. Hence, antidepressants can destabilize and induce mania or coexisting dysphoria and elation.

Theoretical & Inferential Data Assessment

These papers are not subjugated to inferential and theoretical data, they’re conclusions reached based on self-referential and empirical analysis, and a systematic inquiry to into the organic nature of individuals under natural environmental settings.. Subjective evaluations were conducted on mood fluctuation, anxiety, and circumstances that intermittently, inadvertently and indirectly alter, modify and impacted their mood. Linear and nonlinear processes, spatial reasoning, brain rapidity and mental solidity were assessed under normal conditions; childhood trauma, stress, illness, depression, insomnia, and substance abuse were accounted for under careful observation..Rigid investigations were conducted into the biological predisposition and environmental factors that precursors the individuals predicament…Also engaging with the “observers effect” methods and principles, where passivity, compliance, and complete adherence to the test subject focal points.
